ABEL HEATH PROJECT:

ABEL HEATH PROJECT

The initial purpose of the project was to update past surveys of the Heath. In the last three years we have carried out surveys of plants, trees, fungi and bird visitors as well as undertaken a seasonal photographic record from fixed points. As a side line we have also undertaken trampling of bracken and attempted some willow herb control. Now that the initial aims have been achieved and the results lodged with both the Norfolk Wildlife Trust (NWT) and the Norfolk Biodiversity Information Service (NBIS) the activities on the Heath have declined apart from periodic visits by several members on an informal basis. Anyone wishing to become involved should make themselves known to the Committee.

SCHOOLS AWARD

It is to be hoped that we can once again make an award to a local school or children’s group for their work in the field of wildlife and nature conservation. Details will be announced to local schools in the New Year.
